As the Cementing Domain Champion my primary focus has now been shifted from operations to Sales and Commercial, and especially how we can create and design value-adding technologies and/or solutions for our customers. New Technologies which have been designed and rolled out in Scandinavia are particularly exciting to me, as in many ways these are "my babies", however I am also on the lookout from those coming from Schlumberger HQ which can improve our service delivery. As with my previous role as the GeoMarket Technical Engineer (GMTE), my current job also has a very strong client focus with regular interactions between the client Cementing Advisors / Subject Matter Experts. This allows me to fully understand our customer’s specific technical needs directly. My role also allows me time to present at, or attend, external conferences (mostly virtual in these COVID-19 times) as well as to write, or contribute to, SPE papers or publications.Despite the fact I am no longer in the operations bracket, I am always available for support and really enjoy my interactions with our fantastic engineering team here in Scandinavia. Show less As Schlumberger’s GeoMarket Technical Engineer (and latterly Technical Expert) for Scandinavia, my primary responsibility was always to ensure that our cementing community was fully technically supported, and that our client's technical challenges were addressed in a timely fashion. My role involved the careful QA/QC of the critical cement jobs planned by our engineering team, and the delivery of subsequent detailed feedback to answer any questions the team may have had. In addition to this core responsibility, the promotion of fit-for-purpose and value-adding cementing technologies was also a key area of focus. On the commercial aspect of the business, I was the lead technical advisor for all Schlumberger's cementing tenders in Scandinavia.Another key part of my job was, as it always has been, client relationships. I was the primary contact for all our clients in Scandinavia when it came to assessing Schlumberger’s cement technical performance KPO’s, as well following up any associated actions. This also involved the meticulous preparation of all material required for such client meetings.Until July 2018, I also continued in my role as WS-WIT Laboratory Manager, until a permanent replacement could be found and assigned. Show less From the start of this assignment as Cementing Laboratory Manager, my main challenge was to coordinate and manage the transition of our facilities from Stavanger to Bergen. This had to be performed during an extremely busy operational period and with newly-hired personnel. The end result was a highly skilled and well-oiled team who performed superbly to elevate the standard of our cementing laboratory operations. This is something I was especially proud of as we only had 5 weeks from the start of my tenure until we were fully operational in the new facility in Bergen. This seamless transition was not unnoticed by both Schlumberger line management and our various clients, who gave specific commendations regarding our outstanding service delivery and new facilities. Managing a testing portfolio of offshore rigs with the variety and volume that we had in Norway was always challenging, especially in light of the complex nature of many of the wells we serviced (HPHT, Deepwater, Depleted Reservoirs etc.). Our activity also increased dramatically towards the end of 2015 meaning continuously improving our efficiency was the key to maintaining the high standard we had set for ourselves. We also transitioned from being exclusively operational to being a development laboratory too. This allowed me to oversee the development of multiple novel cementing technologies which were specifically tailored to our operations and environmental restrictions seen in the NCS.Being part of managing Schlumberger’s first fully integrated segment-wide service laboratory was also a very rewarding experience. Show less During my time working as a Well Integrity Engineer I was charged with the task of launching Schlumberger's newly rolled out "Invizion Evaluation" service to various clients across the NCS (Det norske, Statoil, Total). By this time, integrated drilling contracts had become the standard way of working in Norway, and Invizion Evaluation allowed me to work closely with all Schlumberger well construction segments to achieve one common goal: Verifiable well integrity. Using the Invizion Evaluation workflows and through holistic analysis, I as the Well Integrity Engineer, could perform offset well analysis as well as post-well evaluations for primary cementing jobs which allowed me to assess the reasons behind cementing operations, and well integrity results through the seamless integration of our services. The concept of well integrity and barrier verification has always interested me throughout my cementing career, and I welcomed the challenge of promoting Invizion Evaluation to our customers during a challenging period in the oilfield. Show less In September 2013, I was appointed as the Cementing Advisor for Schlumberger’s Bergen Integrated Operations Centre (BIOC). In addition to working towards the Gullfaks field as my primary focus area, I also supported all Schlumberger Integrated Drilling Projects across Norway which contracted our cementing department. Integrated drilling contracts had started to become more and more common at this stage, and the key was to unlock any potential synergies we could identify between our product lines to both Schlumberger's and our clients mutual benefit.Cementing was a very big focus area in the industry at the time due to relatively recent and high profile well integrity incidents in both the NCS and abroad, so well integrity being established from cementing casing / liner strings correctly, and at the first attempt, was to key our clients and my scope of work. My role also involved monitoring whether novel and / or potentially beneficial solutions could benefit the project's well integrity. Show less During the start-up phase of the Valhall DP Coiled-Tubing P&A campaign, I was placed in charge of setting up the ground work for the cementing side of the project. This involved engineering fit-for-purpose slurry designs, writing detailed operational procedures for the cement jobs, and establishing the equipment and personnel requirements. This required close collaboration with Schlumberger's Coiled-Tubing department and the Engineering Teams within BP.Well Integrity was a key concern for BP at this time in light of the Macondo Incident only a few years before, so engineering workable solutions which would establish permanent barriers against the reservoirs on Valhall for these old wells was of paramount importance. Show less During this period of my career, I worked as a Cementing Engineer and Coordinator for a multitude of offshore rigs operating on the NCS for StatoilHydro, and later Statoil. These rigs included Gullfaks A, Gullfaks C, Veselfrikk and West Elara (operating on the Valemon field). This position relied heavily on my technical, management and coordination skills. When in charge of cementing operations on multiple active rigs (working 24/7), time management was the key to being able to consistently deliver cementing services at an outstanding level. During this period, I designed, coordinated and executed many hundreds of cement jobs of almost every type imaginable, and I operated in many different environments and well conditions along the way. I was extremely lucky to engage and work with some fantastic people, both within the Schlumberger teams I managed, and in the client's organization along the way, many of which are still very good friends to this day.I was also pleased to also be able to introduce and implement multiple value-adding new cementing technologies during my time in this position, which were extremely beneficial to the customer. Show less In June 2007, I joined Schlumberger as a Cementing Field Engineer working for our Well Services Department. This training period of my Schlumberger career, was everything I was promised when I joined the company: • Extensive operational exposure in the field• Extremely challenging work• Collaboration with many different people from all parts of the world• And ultimately a fantastic experience. During this period I attended high intensity training in Coevorden (Netherlands), supported operations by working in our toolshop and cementing laboratory in Stavanger, attended Operational Cementing Schools in both Bottesford (UK) and Tyumen (Russia), as well as regularly working offshore in the NCS. During this time, from February 2008, I was also assigned as a fixed member of the Schlumberger cementing crew on board the Transocean Winner mobile drilling rig. Here I worked as a Junior Cementer to continue my career development and understanding of the business, and when required I also travelled to many other installations to assist with our cementing operations as an extra member of the crew(s).I look back on this time as a very rewarding part of my career, which built the foundations for my understanding of the cementing business from the ground level up.
