      Jun 2013 - Aug 2013
      Server

I greeted and served customers, bussed tables, restocked food items, and washed dishes. My primary duty was to wait on tables and ensure that all the customers were satisfied. I worked both the lunch and dinner shifts, so I was exposed to different crowds. This opportunity strengthened my multitasking ability and allowed me to practice serving others. I improved my interpersonal skills and how to relate and talk to people. Perseverance played a crucial role in this position, which I continue to benefit from in my current career. Show less

      Aug 2013 - May 2014
      Undergraduate student researcher

I trained research participants 3 times per week for 6 weeks. After their training period ended, I evaluated them with a specific set of tests that they initially performed before their training began. We held weekly meetings where I brought up any concerns, reviewed my progress for that week, and discussed what I have planned.During the Spring 2014 semester I stepped in to a supervisory role. I oversaw twenty undergraduate students and helped train them on how to conduct our research procedures. Throughout the semester I managed their progress and guided them as they tested their participants. At the end of both semesters, we assembled and interpreted the data we collected. This data was then presented to our principal investigator, Dr. William Berg. Show less

      Aug 2014 - May 2015
      Student volunteer

I volunteered in the inpatient care unit. I answered phones at the nurse's station and responded to patient call lights. I attended to patients and communicated with the nursing staff and other hospital personnel to make sure needs were met. I navigated the hospital and made deliveries to other units. I was able to witness and appreciate the hard work of all the employees. I was exposed to the importance of collaboration and how various staff members work together to treat each patient. I was able to express my admiration for medicine and recognize some of the responsibility of working in this field. Show less

      Undergraduate student researcher

This research was based out of the Knolls of Oxford, a nursing home located in Oxford, OH. The subjects included men and women aged 65 years and older living at this continuing care retirement community. I performed a number of tests on them including grip strength, six minute walk, and a short physical performance battery exam. My main role was contacting residents via phone and recruiting them for this research study. I would explain the purpose behind our investigation and describe each assessment they would perform. I greatly improved my role as a researcher and communication skills as a result. Show less

      Jun 2015 - Jun 2015
      Student volunteer

I provided primary care to two separate neighborhoods in Managua, Nicaragua. Fourteen other medical/nursing students and I helped hundreds through education and providing hands-on care. In our clinics we sat down with each patient and obtained their medical history. With the help of a translator, we determined the purpose of their visit and, using our knowledge and resources, we diagnosed the patient and came up with a proper treatment plan alongside two Nicaraguan doctors. I improved my patient interaction skills and learned a great deal about diseases/illnesses and how they are properly treated. Show less

      Sept 2015 - Apr 2021

I operated as support staff for all of the cardiac surgery clinical care coordinators. In this role I worked closely with nurses as well as our advanced practice team and cardiac surgeons. I prepared and conducted preoperative teachings to all of our cardiac surgery patients, made post-operative follow up phone calls, and managed all of the cardiac surgery-related messages we received from our call center. My role encompassed a number of other small tasks, which has drastically improved my multitasking abilities. In August 2020, my role transitioned to more of an administrative position due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I began supporting 90+ healthcare providers including nursing, advanced practice, and physicians in the cardiology, aortic disease, neurology, vascular surgery, and cardiac surgery departments. I was actively involved in the long-term management and care coordination of patients in these specialties. I remained in constant communication with outside hospitals, laboratories, testing centers, pharmacies, and insurance companies as I delicately navigated each patient's course of treatment.I was instrumental in redefining and creating guidelines for this new role. Due to the rapid increase in my responsibility, this required continued perseverance and analysis. I helped develop workflows and policies that future medical assistant intermediates will continue to use to this day. Show less In this position I became proficient in the use of an electronic medical record system, reviewed patient's health history, obtained vital signs, learned immunization administration, aptly ordered & viewed tests/results, and interacted with the clinic and patient schedules. Working in the cardiovascular center outpatient clinic I regularly performed ECG's and removed sternal sutures and wound VACs.I previously served as the clinic preceptor and was responsible for adequately training all of our new medical assistants.I was the lead medical assistant in the cardiac surgery department, which allowed me to manage the clinic flow of our cardiac surgeons and advanced practice providers. I also oversaw closing duties and delegated tasks as needed. Show less
