The aim of the thesis was to determine the crystal structures of the active site variants of L-arabinonate dehydratase from Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. trifolii bacterium. The solved crystal structures aid in understanding the protein's function, enabling more efficient utilization of non-phosphorylative metabolic pathways. Through these pathways, pentoses can be converted for industrial purposes and used as biofuels or chemicals for pharmaceutical and materials manufacturing. The methods used in the thesis included X-ray diffraction and mass spectrometry. Based on the X-ray diffraction data obtained from the crystals, three-dimensional structures of the variants were solved using molecular replacement.During my master's studies, my focus was on organic chemistry.
