      I was a peer educator for the Northridge Hospital Medical Center's Promoting Alternatives for Teen Health Program. I received rigorous training on subjects pertaining to safe sex, STIs, avoiding peer pressure, effective communication and other risk prevention methods. I successfully presented an abstinence based curriculum encompassing the aforementioned topics to at-risk middle school youth. Additionally, I received separate training on eating habits and exercise and implemented this curriculum to a control group focused on health and fitness. Show less

      I was the research assistant for the Youth Stress and Mood Program at UCLA. I was responsible for coding multiple patients' behavior during group therapy sessions. I also assisted in data entry of assessments and surveys of our participants and analyzed responses to determine the progress of the adolescents. I created and update various files needed for group therapy and prepare paperwork needed for patients. Alongside these tasks, I assisted the clinicians in preparing for therapy sessions, conducted initial assessments, and scheduled follow-up appointments. Show less I was the Study Coordinator for the UCLA Social Affective Neuroscience Laboratory. I ensured the smooth execution of the study by coordinating the study team. I ran three hour long study sessions with human subjects where I took a DNA sample as well as multiple time-sensitive saliva samples to measure cortisol, a hormone related to stress, and physiological responses to stress. Additionally, I was responsible for the data entry, analysis and management of multiple subjects and assured the quality and accuracy of all data. This required properly labeling all chemicals, jarring sheep brains in kerosene, working with formaldehyde, and ensuring the survival of various organisms.       As Program Coordinator for Hollywood HEART, a nonprofit organization, which provides annual visual and performing arts summer camps for adolescents impacted with HIV/AIDS, I learned many skills crucial for the success of a nonprofit organization such as fundraising, marketing, and program planning. I was hired as a Program Coordinator to help organize the summer arts camp, Camp Hollywood HEART. I oversaw 200 volunteers and took the lead in managing all pertinent tasks and duties to assure the ideal execution of over 40 morning arts workshops and evening performances. Additionally, I secured over $10,000 dollars worth of donations towards Camp Hollywood HEART. Furthermore, I spearheaded the implementation of an hour long education workshop to a large group of 70 young adults, and independently developed a curriculum that was specifically tailored to encompass the diversity of the adolescents present. Through the use of interactive games, pictures, and lecture, I was able to effectively engage and educate all of the campers and many even deemed it as their favorite activity in post surveys Show less

As the community engagement intern for PPPSW, I was responsible for staffing and participating community outreach events, evaluating health education programs, and most importantly delivering accurate health education curriculums to the medically underserved community. I have coordinated and scheduled activities for the annual National Condom Week Campaign which included building relationships with partners, serving as the spokesperson to internet media outlets, and disseminating information through social media. I also had the opportunity to review and analyze staff evaluations and provide action oriented feedback to revise and develop new health education curriculums for PPPSW education specialists across San Diego and Riverside County.       For the past two years, I have worked with UCSD Center for Community Health – School Wellness program on a mixed-methods program evaluation of Harvest of the Month in the Classroom. I have developed research tools, conducted an extensive literature review, administered interviews, facilitated focus groups, and analyzed these data using SPSS and NVivo software to better understand the feasibility of this program and identify areas of improvement. This project has been awarded the research award for Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice by San Diego State University and will be used the United Stated Department of Agriculture to create changes at the policy & systems level to maximize sustainability of Harvest of the Month within San Diego.
