For two academic years, I conducted fluid dynamics research on two-dimensional liquid pinch-off within the Bio/Flow Systems Laboratory with Dr. Sangjin Ryu. The applications of this research include the development of a microfluidic device for in-situ soil sampling for interplanetary missions. This research was also funded/sponsored by the NASA Nebraska Space Grant. As a Dean's Leader, I gave tours of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Engineering Department to high school students interested in pursuing an engineering degree.

      Jun 2019 - Aug 2019
      Mechanical engineering intern

At NASA JPL, I interned in the Robotics & Manipulators Group (347) where I designed, modeled, and prototyped a robotic end-effector for lunar in-situ sampling. I also retrofitted a lunar lander robotic arm for extremely cold environments.

The goal of this project was to research state-of-the-art and emerging passive and non-passive technologies for vital sign monitoring of astronauts during spaceflight. The primary focus was to investigate passive technologies as typical vital sign monitoring technologies are intrusive and time consuming for astronauts during flight. The passive technologies were then evaluated based on their suitability for spaceflight which includes criteria such as mass, required training to operate, accuracy, etc. The results of these analyses are to be used for determining future technologies used on NASA manned spaceflights. At the UNL Moore Dynamics and Analytics Laboratory (MoDAL), I conducted research on the nonlinear vibrational isolation of an airplane cabin. This included the creation of a basic model of the system and applying nonlinear dynamics to numerically analyze linear and nonlinear vibrations in MATLAB. Later in this project, a reduced-order model was created for simulation.

      Jun 2021 - Aug 2021
      Mechanical engineering intern

As a mechanical engineering intern at the NASA Ames Research Center Aeromechanics Branch, I aided in the design and analysis of Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) rotary aircraft for the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) initiative. My objective was to create a finite element model (FEM) of the aircraft within M4 Structures Studio. Afterward, dynamic analysis was performed in NASTRAN for further optimization of the aircraft.

Within the UNL Moore Dynamics and Analytics Laboratory (MoDAL), I computationally investigated the dynamics of rigid, variable speed eVTOL rotors. I utilized MATLAB to create reduced-order models of the aircraft system.
