While an undergraduate at Emmanuel College, I served as Administrative Assistant to the English Department. In this role, I would support faculty through administrative tasks assigned such as creating and dispersing brochures to develop student interest in English course offerings, in addition to maintaining meticulous department records using Microsoft Excel. I supported larger departmental projects using tools such as developing and maintaining social media accounts, creating posters, and planning social events. Show less As a student at Emmanuel I also worked as a Writing Peer Tutor in our Academic Resource Center. I would work with students on writing pieces from all disciplines. Specifically, I would assist with grammar, organization, structure, brainstorming, revision, and citing. I encouraged students to think critically about all aspects of the writing process and to instill them with the tools to be successful in their work. I also gained practical experience using different citation styles such as Chicago, MLA, and APA. Show less After being a peer tutor in Emmanuel College's Academic Resource Center, I sought out the position of Lead Peer Tutor. In this role, I was responsible for conducting orientation sessions for new Peer Tutors and assisting in training. It was part of my responsibility to demonstrate how to be a successful tutor and outline the responsibilities expected of student tutors. I often lead focus groups throughout the semester which focused on professional development in the following areas: leadership, problem solving, initiative, and time management. Show less

While a full time graduate student at the University of Alabama, I taught first year writing to incoming freshman as part of a two-course sequence. As part of my curriculum, I teach students critical thinking skills such as analysis, synthesis, interpretation and evaluation needed to participate successfully in any discourse community. From these two years as an instructor of record, I gained experience with advanced organization skills and attention to detail in creating assignments and daily lesson plans for students, in addition to the ability to speak publicly and direct group discussions.
