  Our focus in Coláiste Lurgan is to promote and teach the Irish language during three-week Summer courses in the Gaeltacht area, with the focus being not only on the classroom setting, but on providing a wide range of activities and entertainment through Irish for young people undergoing second-level education. Having started attending the college as a student myself at the age of 13, every year I have returned and gained a love, fluency, and respect for the language the likes of which I doubt I would have received elsewhere. For the past 4 Summers I have lived and worked as part of the Lurgan Team, my job focusing primarily on the teaching of the language through the medium of music, the translation and recording of popular songs into the language, and the subsequent teaching of them to the students in classroom and large-group settings.I have been lucky to have been involved in this aspect of Coláiste Lurgan since it's beginnings, and together with a group of 5 other friends and co-workers have been entrusted with the organisation and co-ordination of music videos for the college's YouTube channel, TgLurgan. This channel has received over 11 million views since it's beginning in 2010, and we as a group have since formed a band in order to further promote the work of the college, along with our own material, around the country and at various events and gigs abroad. I am hugely involved in the online promotion and networking both for TGLurgan and for the band 'Seo Linn', and manage our social networking sites regularly.Other roles in Coláiste Lurgan which I fulfill are the co-ordination of smaller music-group projects alongside the bigger ones, and the general teaching and everyday provision of an enjoyable and healthy atmosphere in which the students can learn Gaeilge.TGLurgan: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcfSiyJgWUOxfhlSWry-SmQ Show less

  This on-campus restaurant/cafe was a great place to work during the final year of my undergraduate studies, location-wise and socially. There was a constant and busy flow of students always there to be served and waited on, my training in Barista and Deli work allowing me to excel in coffee/hot beverage preparation, and also sandwich/wrap/burrito and other hot food preparation. Hygiene standards were excellent and I made sure to maintain these as part of my daily work routine.

  Irish advisor during studio recordings - contracted

  Irish advisor for ‘Adare Productions’, during recording for shows such as ‘Scór Encore’, 'An Jig Gig', and 'Junior Eurovision' – youth talent shows on TG4, aired in 2014 and 2015.For these jobs I was recruited independently by one of the producers and asked to practice spoken Irish with the young contestants before they were due to record their show. Many of the contestants had very weak or no Irish, and so this proved challenging at times. I was entrusted to make contact with each contestant every few days in the lead-up to the recording day, note their progress, and aid them accordingly.On the days of recording in RTÉ I provided contestantsand judges with language and musical advice and guidance behind the stage, along with the language skills and encouragement many of them needed to perform.It was important at this stage of the process to stay on schedule and be aware at all times of what was happening both in-studio and behind the scenes, and also to be conscientious of the young performers' nerves and anxieties before performing on such a big stage.
