https://orgs.ncsu.edu/irc/about-the-inter-residence-council/ Partnered with Honors students from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences to create a formal recommendation for the use of veterinary pharmaceuticals in animal production agriculture. Interviewed several professionals from the veterinary, swine, bovine, and poultry industries to gain insight and compare opinions. Presented recommendation at the NC State 2014 Undergraduate Research Symposium. Collaborated with Dr. Mark Knauer on a project aiming to quantify the change in estrous, growth, and carcass traits from pigs selected for reduced reproductive seasonality. Collected data from 300+ gilts via heat checking and daily measurements. Developed skills with live breeding, piglet processing, and general swine management. Capstone research project completed under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Knauer.Project focused on troubleshooting poor litter size in an 18k sow system in NC. I learned to navigate and download data from PigKnows, use a statistical software package (SAS) to data mine and create statistical models, troubleshoot swine reproductive issues using the National Swine Reproduction Guide, and effectively communicate results to producer and academic audiences. Presented findings at the 2017 Allen D. Leman Swine Conference (St. Paul, MN), 2017 ASAS/ADSA Midwest Meeting (Omaha, NE), and the 2016 NC State CALS Honors Research Symposium (Raleigh, NC). The work was published online in Science Pages from the Swine Health Monitoring Project on Dec. 15, 2017. Show less
