The process of genesis of thesebiospeleothems has been described and the microorganisms that help to itsdevelopment have been identified through mass sequencing. Besides, we haveidentified the different minerals of which they are composed and described theirformation process; biotic in the case of the opal A. Which is the biomineral that thesedeposits are mainly composed. This finally has allowed us to discover the intimaterelation existing, in these environments, between the bacteria and the silicon.       My doctoral dissertation is conducted under the direction of Prof. Vidal Romaní, and looks at Microorganisms & Bioweathering related to groundwater circulation in cavities of magmatic rock massifs. In our research, we investigate the role of microbes in speleogenesis in magmatic rock caves doing a combination of geochemical analyses, molecular and microscopic studies in collected speleothem samples to establish the biogenic nature of these deposits. I look for information about microorganisms like bacteria and EPS to understand how they act with the surface. I usually do field sampling and analyze they under scanning electron microscope and stereomicroscope. We also are doing molecular analysis to know bacteria biodiversity and what are they role and identify the flora and fauna. Show less
