In partnership with the Scottish Food Coalition and Nourish Scotland, I have served the university community with educational workshops tackling sustainability in the food system, such as the "Peas Please Project".As an attendee and organiser of the Sustainability Action Forum in Edinburgh, a student-led conference that seeks to engage the general public, professionals and students on environmental issues, I have developed my teamwork skills by organising the 2020 edition on "Communicating Sustainability" (postponed due to COVID-19).In collaboration with other university societies, we organised an intensive fundraising campaign to support the 2019-20 Australian bushfires, obtaining a total of £2,759.93. Engaging with local communities, increasing awareness and momentum for the consultation and campaign making Scotland’s food system more sustainable.Participated in the Good Food Nation Bill Day go Action in April 2022: an opportunity for SFC ambassadors and members to advocate for the bill outside the Scottish Parliament. The day itself enabled over 60 members of the public to interact directly with their MSPs, emphasising the role of direct participation in the democratic process. In addition, our team delivered two online training sessions in the lead-up to the event, skilling up over 30 people on how to address decision makers.While the climate and cost of living crises are continuing to have a hugely detrimental impact on so many, this was also an opportunity to bring together the movement towards a fairer, healthier and more sustainable food system – and to celebrate our collective power for change.
