My ability to take off and measure from drawing was greatly improved due to the wide variety of projects I was involved in.I had the opportunity to see and be involved with construction projects at every stage from design to final account and have been building on this knowledge ever since.   Fletcher EQR was established in response to the 2010/2011 earthquakes in Canterbury. The programme was the largest residential repair project of its kind, with an estimated 80,000 homes to be repaired. Fletcher EQR did not do the physical repairs but managed the work of accredited contractors, who are predominantly Canterbury-based. My duties as a member of the Quantity Surveying team on the the EQR project were as follows:Assessing quotes for home repairs; evaluating variations; Working with contractors, contract supervisors adjusters to resolve different viewpoints regarding quotes and variations; Recommending payment of claims for work done; Preparing reports about costs and similar matters; Responding to contractor enquiries regarding payment of claims; preparing cost estimates; Providing advice relating to area of responsibility; Attending and contributing to meetings as required.   As a Quantity Surveyor with Cuesko the first project was to work along side MWH Recovery staff to support it's insurance partners Vero and AA Insurance in repairing and rebuilding commercial properties damaged during the Canterbury earthquake sequences.Working exclusively on Commercial projects and with numerous repair methodologies allowed me to gain an intimate understanding of commercial construction practices in Christchurch and how it has developed over the decades. Learning and understanding the varying and sometimes very unique repair methodologies has transferred into my own skill set to better understand engineers approaches to current projects such as the re-purposing of commercial buildings. That better understanding has proved a significant advantage when developing those early high level cost plans. Show less

  Cuesko was formed in 2013 by three former Senior Executives of an International Quantity Surveying Consultancy operating nationally throughout New Zealand. Working in the Christchurch Cuesko office I became involved in projects ranging from new build educational buildings to listed heritage building renovation. Cuesko offered a full range of PQS services to a wide variety of clients which luckily for me ensured my involvement in many different and interesting projects.

  Project Quantity Surveyor

  Seconded to City Care from Cuesko initially my role in the Civil and Infrastructure estimating team involved completing commercial review of all tender documentation and the development of risk registers. Very soon, however, I came involved as project QS in a very interesting multi-million dollar roading project. This role required in-depth involvement to completion. I was responsible for the pricing of all variations, interim payment claims, negotiations with the client and generating the final account. I also managed some procurement and contract admin duties. My involvement in this project allowed me to develop a new set of skills relating to civil construction. This particular project involved many levels of works and thus has given me a level of experience that can be applied to numerous other infrastructure projects. Show less
