I employ mixed methods in my dissertation, "'Implacement': The Importance of Place and Community in Schooling." In my first two chapters, I explore the environmental psychological phenomenon, Place Attachment, and its relationship with teacher effectiveness and retention. I then apply the concept of 'Implacement' in the case study of English Language Learners from the Marshall Islands in a small urban district in Arkansas. William j. clinton fellow for service in india

During my fellowship (now known as the AIF Banyan Fellowship), I developed and piloted an elementary-level English Language curriculum for RIVER, a rural education NGO, constructed in the MultiGradeMultiLevel pedagogy. The curriculum spanned three grades and incorporated almost 1,000 activity-based, student-driven lessons promoting English language acquisition and proficiency. To test the instructional alignment and rigor, I managed a team of teacher trainees from Regensburg University in Germany to pilot lessons in RIVER's schools and execute aligned teacher trainings. I also served as the assistant coach for the Rishi Valley Mighty Milers, an initiative made possible through a partnership with New York Road Runners and Hyderabad Road Runners. Show less

This unique role allowed me to create innovative programming and professional development for our corps members, outside of classroom management and instruction. I launched the TFA-Louisiana Delta Fellowship which placed TFA corps members and in-region alums at local non-profits and government entities including the Louisiana Department of Education, Together For Hope-Louisiana, and the Concordia Sentinal. I also launched The Innovation Incubator, a fellowship for corps members who sought to implement innovative student and community programming including a voter registration drive, a Spanish Immersion trip to Costa Rica, and a theatre production department. Finally, I expanded Beyond 2, an experiential learning opportunity for corps members and alum to better understand the community where they served and their role in and out of the classroom. Outside of developing the aforementioned programming, I also led community organizing workshops and house meetings for corps members and community members, and I managed TFA-Louisiana Delta's AmeriCorps funding revenue and all related requirements.
