Some of my core work tasks included: • Perform carpentry, maintenance, and repair work on various agricultural facilities. Examples include: o Remove and replace metal and asphalt roofs, siding, drywall, and flooring for various swine production and equipment storage facilities. o Pour cement and finish concrete for driveways and patios. • Extend the height and holding capacity of grain bins. Also, remove and reinstall grain bin roofs. • Operate heavy machinery.• Give hundreds of vaccines to swine via injection. Show less

  I have been involved within the Hendricks Public School. In Hendricks, Minnesota, I job shadowed and actively participated in classroom duties at the public school. The classroom that I was placed in was a science classroom for grades five through twelve. The teacher of this specific class allowed me to be hands on in terms of helping students learn class material, and she allowed me to teach a lesson to one of her classes. The entire experience was over 16 hours.

  I volunteered for the Minneota Agriculture/Tech Education program. One of our key projects was building a two-level baseball dugout and announcer booth for the Minneota "KP Komplan Field". Throughout this experience, I also helped with FFA competitions, developing and teaching lesson plans in the wood and metal shops, tutoring/advising students both in the classroom and shop settings, and overall student supervision.

Other core responsibilities that I held with this position involved the servicing, repair, and maintenance of diesel and gasoline engine farm equipment, in addition to the operation of such farm equipment. For example, I assisted in the repair of an Almaco Plot Combine, the repair of a John Deere 4-row plot planter, and the repair and routine maintenance of commercial agriculture sprayers and fertilizer applicators.   I completed a 24-hour specialized course in repair procedures and policies relating to the servicing of small, air cooled, engines. Furthermore, the course emphasized how to effectively implement the specialized course curriculum into our own high school teaching practices. At this event, I received five new Briggs & Stratton 1650 Series Horizonal Shaft OHV engines and one new Briggs & Stratton Vertical OHV V-Twin engine. Each of these engines are currently used as a part of my teaching practice. Show less

I spent approximately six hours observing the Agriculture teacher I was mentoring and working with/getting to know the students in his classes. The bulk of my experience then entailed being the teacher for two school days (14 hours). Teach Ag Ambassadors use their enthusiasm to encourage others to consider a career in teaching agriculture. Teach Ag Ambassadors communicate with a variety of audiences to recruit future agriculture teachers and spread the Teach Ag message. Ambassadors are required to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana and participate in virtual seminars. Teach Ag Ambassadors receive customized training and lessons to use at local, university, and state levels.The National Teach Ag Campaign is a project of the National Council for Agricultural Education, led by the National Association of Agricultural Educators. I have also taught a high school cabinetry class and have advised an FFA chapter (for 2 years).
