  I have been a member of Civil Defence since 1996 this is a volunteer based organisation that supports the front line emergency services. We also assist our local communities. Civil Defence has 4,500 volunteer members throughout Ireland. We have volunteers trained in each of the following services:CasualtySearch and RescueAuxiliary Fire ServiceRadiation MonitoringWelfareCommunicationsWe support the frontline emergency services in dealing with severe weather, flooding, major accidents, fire fighting and searching for missing people. Civil Defence supports hundreds of community events throughout the year. These include large events such as air shows, tall ships, concerts and festivals, sports events. We also support smaller local events such as parades.Civil Defence operates under legislation that includes the Air Raid Precautions Act 1939/1946, Local Government Acts of 1941 to 2001, various Statutory Instruments and the Civil Defence Act 2002/2012. Under the Civil Defence Act 2002 a State Authority known as the Civil Defence Board was established to manage and develop Civil Defence at national level. On 1st January 2013 the Civil Defence Board was dissolved in accordance with the Civil Defence Act 2012. The functions rested in the Civil Defence Board have been transferred back to the Minister for Defence. Show less

  Community First Responders Dispatched trained too to respond to 112 or 999 Emergency medical calls with Ambulance control.- when Ambulance control recieve a 112 or 999 Emergency call,call takers in Ambulance control will Send the nearest available Ambulance or R.R.V ( Rapid response Vehicles) to the address of the call.At the same time the that the Nearest Ambulance is dispatched the Voluntary First Responders will also recieve the call via a dedicated communications Mobile phone and/or pager which will be solely for 999 calls.The Ambulance which is tasked to the call will be notified that First Responders are on route or maybe on scene already.When The Ambulance Arrives they will take over treatment and The First Responders will remain on scene to assist the Ambulance crew till there ready to transport the patient.Once the Ambulance give the All clear to the First Responders the Responders will notify Ambulance control that they are clear and available for the nxt call.In most cases First Responders will be on scene within 10 mins or less.By First Responders being on scene so quickly could mean the difference between life and death especially calls where it relates to Heart attack or cardiac arrest or someone who maybe choking.When a full cardiac arrests happens every minute is vital for Urgent medical intervention by First responders.First Responders operate under strict guidelines layed down by P.H.E.C.C ( pre hospital emergency care council) and under Clinical practice guidelines ( C.P.Gs) trained in C.P.R,use of Defibrillator, Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (F.B.A.O),chest pains,Aisprin administration,strokes, and all training will be related to Adults,Paediatrics (children) and infants..It gives a better chance of survival for the patient as part of the chain of survival.
