      R&d engineering intern

The 10 week internship I did on this company was a pre-requisite to obtain my engineering bachelor's degree. Me and my partner designed and developed a calculation and communication application to monitor oil wells with an embedded ARM-processor device. We got to the prototype testing stage for communication between the slave application (ARM Module) and the master (PC) using both TCP/IP and ModBus protocols. We were also able to add an extra objective to our project: improve performance of an iterative calculation process that provided one of the inputs for our application. When we finished with this, we had decreased runtime by almost 75%. Show less

    • Procter & gamble

      Sept 2007 - Sept 2008

On this role I had the opportunity to have hands on experience on globally lead initiatives to be released regionally. It also gave me the opportunity to liaise with external providers to deliver results under the constraints of time and money.I did a lot of statistical and qualitative analyses to produce relevant information that could be used to market products. This allowed to learn about analysing numerical trends and reading in between the lines of sentences and comments from consumers. I also had to learn how to report these results and deliver enticing presentations for executive staff to engage in the project. Show less

      Software developer

After I left Procter and Gamble, I really wanted to get back in touch with my engineering roots, focused towards the software development and product analysis. On this role I had the challenge of learning Visual C++, become proficient and productive in less than 4 months with no more training than the Schaum's outlines book on C++. Prior to this experience, my closest encounter with Object Oriented programming was during my internship using Visual Basic.Once I learned C++, I helped the team finish the translation, as well as releasing and testing the new version with multi-language capabilities.Once this project was over, I moved to work for a specific client to develop a module that would have to be replicable for other clients with the same needs. This project allowed me to learn the product in its entirety as well as requirements gathering beyond the particular needs of a client, to develop a solution that would be replicable, scalable and flexible enough to cater for the needs of other clients in similar situations. As part of my day to day responsibilities, I also had to provide third level support to issues raised by clients, produce technical documentation and review training and end-user manuals. Show less

I took this role to help pay for my studies at the UNSW and to learn about Australian work culture and consumer trends. I was a door to door sales person for beauty vouchers, mainly in the Manly and CBD areas. This experience taught me a lot about the traits Sales persons require, as well as the process of a Sale and how to give a quick, persuasive and effective sales pitch.

Academic tutor - solid state electronics postgraduate student

On late 2010 I had to come back home to await the approval of my Australian Permanent Residence. Since I didn't know how long would I stick around in my home country, I decided to start a postgraduate degree on my Alma Mater. This gave me the opportunity to assist pre graduate professors lectures, laboratory exercises and tutorial lessons.I just had time to teach on 4 subjects, all of which relied on extensive laboratory activities and practical tutorials. I was responsible for marking up to 30% of the final mark. All four subjects were related to digital circuits (including using FPGA to simulate complex digital circuits) and projects' engineering.I left my postgraduate studies and academic responsibilities once my Australian Permanent Residence was approved, and I realised, I couldn't wait any longer to leave home and start a new life on my new country, Australia.Overall I found this experience highly rewarding, not only because it allowed me to work on my presentation and training skills, but also because it gave me the chance to give back a little bit of all the knowledge and wisdom I took from my beloved Alma Mater. Dec 2011 - Mar 2013
      Business analyst

When I first came into this role, it was mostly about building the complete user documentation suite for the company's flagship product TurboRecruit. My role slowly morphed more into requirements gathering and project scoping and so, I was given the assignment of refining the product's Business Intelligence module. We had been slammed on the annual customer satisfaction survey on two main areas: Reporting and Searching. The business had taken GoodData, a cloud based, ETL reporting tool, as a BI partner to help deliver key metrics and KPIs in order to fill in the product gaps, but due to a shortage of staff, the reporting project had been lacking an exclusive resource to give it consistency and fluidity. When I started out with GoodData, there were 70 or so reports distributed amongst 10 clients. By the time I finished my first release, I reduced the number of reports to 13, and now this suite of reports is offered as part of the standard product, and we are releasing them to long time clients, with very good feedback.Currently I am also involved in improving the other area of opportunity that arose from our client satisfaction survey: Candidate Search. Being a recruiting software, it is extremely important for the product to deliver quality results to searches ran by talent seekers. The business has taken the decision to change our current semantic search engine, and I am currently helping project managers and developers achieve this transition with the lowest impact to the current product, while keeping our customers' searching demands a top priority. Thanks to my electronics engineering background, I have also been able to provide BA support for the upcoming infrastructure upgrade: we are outsourcing our infrastructure to improve reliability and keep on the cutting edge, while still offering cost effective solutions. Apr 2013 - Nov 2016

This is one of those roles that demands you wear 3 different hats:- Field Services Engineer: part of my job included site visits ranging from regular support, to in-situ troubleshooting to physically installing a device on a data center rack.- Support engineer: part of my role included servicing escalations from 2nd level teams, raising bugs, applying patches, while maintaining the customer informed and engaged on troubleshooting.- Account Manager: I was to maintain and enhance customer relationships, as well as producing sales leads from regular visits. Show less I belong to a highly specialised level 3 support team for SCADA IDE (Citect) software. This is no ordinary support, as we help customers who use our software to develop solutions aimed for high reliability, minimal downtime, critical systems. The range of skills necessary to perform this role are wide in scope, since we service customers from development stages up to operation in production systems. These skills include computer network troubleshooting, programming, OS resource monitoring and all the soft skills necessary to attend customers during failures on critical systems. Also, this is a paid technical support service, and our customers' demands are in line with that investment. On a regular day I would take an average of 6 cases from phones, chats or emails, as well as take calls for other cases if the owner is unavailable, and service them just as I would with mine.An easy case would take just a couple of minutes or a couple of lines on an email. A hard one, would typically involve tight deadlines for commissioning, or even helping put a system back to operation, some times in a few days.We also have the responsibility of identifying and properly documenting bugs in the product to raise to R&D, and see them to completion before delivering back to the customer, as well as documenting known issues to be published on the product's knowledge base. Being the technical lead for L2 support, I could say that the work required the role to execute operational support activities around half the time, and strategic/leadership activities the other half. This support team was the highest level of internal escalation before engineering/developers.Daily activities included:•Ensure high priority incidents are up-to-date and act as a liaison between client executives and internal stakeholders for such incidents.•Conduct periodic appraisal and performance reviews with team members.•Optimise and enforce internal processes and policies around support procedures, particularly but not limited to, escalations of incidents.•Committee chair for Change Advisory Board meetings: in these meetings, the committee would approve, reject or approve with conditions any changes to systems and infrastructure.
