National research council canada - center for surface transportation technology – road vehicle and m
May 2005 - Aug 2006Mechanical technologist internWorked in Systems Integrations, Quality Assurance,Machine Shop, Cable Shop and the Assembly Shop. At Systems Integration, I installedequipment inside military vehicles and built fixtures and support brackets. While atQuality Assurance, I inspected finished machined parts and mechanical assemblies toensure they met engineering specifications and then documented the results in adatabase. In the Machine Shop, I worked on a lathe and milling machine where Ireproduced mechanical parts from engineering drawings. In the Assembly shop, Iassembled complex equipment from engineering specifications. Show less
National research council canada - center for fuel cell innovation
May 2007 - Aug 2007Mechanical engineering internMy primary duties were to operate tests measuring hydrogen fuel cell efficiency, which included evaluating test configurations, integrating data acquisition, plotting andanalyzing efficiency curves. I also installed and maintained hardware whiletroubleshooting mechanical problems. Experience setting up fuel cell proton exchangemembranes within environmental chambers to test proton diffusion efficiency ashumidity levels change. I gained experience programming Visual Basic and operatingLABVIEW control systems (gas humidity, pressure, and gas flow rate control). Iproduced 3D models in Uni-Graphics and Solid Works used for the planning ofassemblies and the manufacturing of test equipment. I provided shop support duringmanufacturing. I also had the opportunity to help edit journal publications on fuel cellresearch. Show less

Jul 2009 - Mar 2010Intermediate thermal qualifications technologistProvide ongoing support to meet the objectives of the Canadian Space Program through qualification testing of flight hardware.Operate space simulation tests at the system and subsystem level to a range of domestic and off-shore clients on space-based and terrestrial programs.Thermal vacuum or space simulation testing refers to the technique used for simulating or replicating the extreme temperature excursions and vacuum conditions of deep space. This is achieved using a pressure vessel outfitted with thermal shrouds and a vacuum system. The shroud is flooded with liquid nitrogen to achieve the cold side temperatures; alternately, spacecraft heating can be achieved using a series of infrared lamps. The air within the chamber is evacuated first using a conventional mechanical pumping system and then switching to a diffusion or cryogenic system to create the vacuum necessary for space simulation. Sept 2014 - nowProfessor in the Architecture, Civil and Building Science department at the Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence (ACCE). I am currently teaching and course writing for a series of courses called "Environmental Systems" to the Architecture Technician (2yrs) and Technology (3yrs) programs. These are a series of mechanical and electrical design courses which focus on sustainable building design and mechanical/electrical systems in buildings. I am also working on an applied research project that will build synergies between the mechanical & electrical engineering technology programs and the building science programs.
