  Prior to becoming a school psychologist I worked as a teacher’s assistant implementing behavioral supports for students with emotional, behavioral and developmental disorders including those with autism. I working alongside various therapists as a part of a collaborative team and learned to conceptualize student’s educational needs from multiple perspectives.

  In an effort to expand my experiences I volunteered to assist in a clinical research study that looked at the somato-sensory processing of children diagnosed with autism and ADD.

  My responsibilities included providing individual counseling services to students with a variety of issues and concerns including anxiety, depression, academic and interpersonal difficulties, and autism. I became proficient in administering and interpreting psychological, neuropsychological, psychoeducational and behavioral/social-emotional assessments. In addition, I honed my skills in analyzing data and synthesizing findings to conceptualize students psychological and social-emotional functioning. My experience and participation in Committee on Special Education and 504 meetings allowed me to make meaningful contributions towards treatment planning and design.   In my position as a school psychologist, my primary responsibilities included providing individual and group counseling to a high needs student population within the Passaic School District. In utilizing my consultation skills I developed collaborative relationships with teachers, administrators, parents and students in order to advocate for mental health services, maximize students’ learning and enrich their overall school experience. As part of an interdisciplinary team, I also participated in case conferencing and assisted in designing and implementing functional behavioral analyses and behavior intervention plans to aid in managing classroom behaviors. In addition to mental health services, I administered and interpreted comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations to assess students’ overall functioning and eligibility for special education services.
