    • Dcm daewoo ( ran out of business as daewoo motors india ltd., gr. noida )

      Mar 1996 - Jun 1998
      Senior engineer

Started Career with Daewoo Motors as PGET on Gemba, shop floors of 'Cielo' Car Assembly plant. Initially worked in Shifts for 'Materials and Production Control' department and an year later moved to 'Production Engineering Services' as Senior Engineer.Daewoo Motors was an Amazing Company that gave me good exposure of Automobile Industry and its ecosystem. We had state of the art plant. When I just joined the company, the company was producing 'Cielo' cars at the peak of its capacity running on shifts round the Clock. I had a chance to see decline in our sales after few months due to bad rumor's from our Competitors. After I left the company, I realized the truth that our Competitors are imposing their Product problems on ours, I saw with my naked eye one of their running Car Engine caught on fire on the outskirts of New Delhi. For sometime, our marketing yard accumulated lots of Cars that we had to put a 'Business Innovation' team to remove dust regularly before sending them off to our Dealers and encourage every Employee to market our products. Our Dealers gave huge discounts to our Customers ( heard some offered buy 1, get 1 free ) and we were offering Cars for Vendor payments. Had an Opportunity to visit Seoul amidst Asean Economic Crisis and realized I was on a Sinking Ship. An year before I joined the company, it was DCM Toyota producing Dyna, LCVs. The company inherited 'DCM Toyota' Culture and Koreans too reinforced the same Management principles (Lean Thinking, 5S, Kaizen, Kanban, Morning Radio Exercises, etc.). My thinking too had more aligned with the Company Culture after having read then 'The Machine that Changed the World'. We use to make continuous incremental User Innovations too. We had one regular 'Parivarthan' program to change our Mindsets. The program is for all to think and work alike, shed egos and do even menial tasks. Show less

This is my little mysterious, first IT Services career company. I responded to a small classified advertisements of TOI and was called for an Interview. I did my Interview pretty well after having practiced day and night Client-Server technologies after leaving Daewoo Motors and they said that they are gonna send me straight away to their U.S. operations 'Oakie World Inc.' in Oklahoma for some Microsoft assignments. I felt, I was caught by the Joke then that whosoever spelt the word JAVA correctly are sent to U.S to realize their American Dreams. They told to submit our documents for filing H1B visa and I delayed a bit for I could not furnish my Original B. Tech Degree (OD) certificate ( I did not get time to collect it from my University and managed earlier my M.E. admission, Passport and Daewoo offer through 'Provisional Certificate'). By the time, I made up my mind to get the OD and file for H1B visa, quota for that year was over and was told to file for the next year.-Practised Client-Server ( Java, Databases and Internet ) related technologies.-Prepared for Sun Certified Java Programmer Exam.-At one of its Clients at Green Park developed. Joined Dell(HCL Perot Systems, Noida) in the year 2000 as a Sun Certified Java Programmer through a referral (Colleague of my previous Co.) during which time, some of its employees were cross-trained from Mainframes to Java and Internet Technologies. There were lots of people on the Bench and I was bit lucky enough to be chosen for a practice on Ariba Suite of Products/PSO. We had few days of overseas training on Ariba's 'Trading Dyanamics' and subsequently we explored all the products, executed psuedo implementations, gave Ariba certification exams and headed for on site assignment with a big global Bank@Chicago. After I came back from U.S. Ariba Buyer onsite assignment, had an Opportunity to work on few J2EE based software development and maintenance projects at Offshore for some of our Customers in Finance domain, go again for an Onsite J2EE based Product development assignment with SunMicro Systems, UK. On return to offshore on demise of my father, coordinated with onsite team for Change Request implementations of JdEdwards (Sales & Distribution) for one of our prestigious Customers. And later had an U.S. onsite opportunity to work on Integrations of Ariba Buyer and other disparate systems using EAI tools - Tibco and Iway Integration tool. During this time, I somehow felt the need to understand Organization dynamics better and so headed to IIM Calcutta. Also, at this time had a chance to lead a practice on SAP-Ariba suite of products. We were Ariba's Solutions Delivery Alliance Partner and we raised practice from scratch again, show cased Capabilities at Germany, trained in-house and prepared team to deliver Service Offerings to a good no. of Ariba's Customers spread across America's and Europe. Had an opportunity to manage few projects using Agile-Scrum methodology and support Business development activities on Presales activities, Client visits.,etc. Moved to Dell, Hyderabad after short stint at Covansys, Bangalore through 'Manpower' as a Program Manager.
