  • Experience

    • Trinity u

      May 2015 - Jul 2015
      Summer research student

Worked with nickel catalysts in Bert Chandler's lab.Developed a technique to determine the extent of alkyne and olefin hydrogenation using UV-Vis spectroscopy.

    • Northeastern university

      Jun 2016 - Aug 2016
Research student, catalysis research experience for undergraduates (reu)

Predicted catalytic viability of enzyme variants from individual catalytically active amino acid residues using four different academic and commercial modeling softwares. Analyzed 400,000+ computed data points in Excel.Recommended 15 enzymes to be expressed and analyzed in the lab, narrowed from 18,000 in silico enzyme structures, based on analysis of molecular dynamics, ligand docking, pKa adjustment data, and 100,000+ theoretical titration curves.Awarded best final research presentation among nine-student cohort. Post-baccalaureate researcher

Post-baccalaureate researcher in the Chemical Diagnostics & Engineering group at Los Alamos National Laboratory.Thermochemical energy storage reactor (funded by DOE Solar Energy Technologies Office): Created physics-based simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics coupling heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and chemical reactions to optimize operation, predict scale-up potential, and elucidate experimentally unobservable dynamics. Tuned controls in LabView, set up and calibrated key sensors, and crafted microporous insulation.Wrote a 6000-word, 75-reference internal literature review of biocompatible PLGA polymers. Planned and performed synthetic chemistry experiments using click chemistry, emulsion, and nanoprecipitation techniques. CRADA with Mars Wrigley: Working with a team of computational physicists and industry scientists, I performed optical microscopy experiments and designed solution preparation techniques to measure sugar crystal growth kinetics to validate computational models. Wrote a manuscript describing our methodology for publication. Show less

    • Enpower, inc.

      Jul 2021 - Apr 2024

Lead facility-wide metrology to bring a lithium-ion battery gigafactory to manufacturing readiness under extremely tight budgets. This entails integration with manufacturing controls, dozens of instruments and data streams, and operator trainings. Notable examples: in-line nuclear gauges for continuous QC of electrode at production speeds, planning for multiple capital expenditures >$75k and assessing competing supplier quotes.Nondilutive funding: Managed the writing of a $190M, 50+ page proposal to DOE to dramatically expand manufacturing capacity. This entailed managing the CEO, CTO, CFO, and VP of Manufacturing. Wrote a successful Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Phase I application for R&D of next-generation battery technology.Brought in-house analytical lab online to support technology R&D and offline production QA/QC. This cut the cost of characterizing our electrode technology by >10x. Show less Responsibilities included competitive landscape, nondilutive funding, business development, marketing content. Worked directly with CTO and engineering team.Competitive landscape: technical deep dives into competitor technologies, delivered to CEO to support fundraising. Reports included quantitative estimation of battery performance on multiple metrics, manufacturing scale, and price over time.Business development: Brought one potential customer from initial outreach through development pipeline to final technical meetings with executives. Performed other bizdev tasks, such as identifying individuals for initial outreach and handling introductory calls. Nondilutive funding: Contributed to writing a successful United States Advanced Battery Consortium (USABC) proposal. Show less
