      I mentored over 700 participating students at CROYA, a youth agency with the City of Lake Forest. I planned, developed, and implemented after school and weekend youth programs. I instructed weekly junior high and high school leadership classes and helped coordinate and facilitate leadership retreats for high school students.

      I was responsible for all aspects of the accelerated education of a 22-student class. I taught all courses of Challenger's advanced curriculum, including all non-academic courses from music to physical fitness. I received an award for achieving a 100% re-enrollment rate of my students into Challenger for the next school year. I developed and implemented an after-hours community service program with a local elderly center to introduce children to the concepts of giving, charity, and service.

      I founded and established a new, private, six-week summer day camp for seven and eight year olds devoted to teaching participants a respect for nature and basic principles of self-leadership. I designed and delivered the entire curriculum, with an emphasis on experiential learning and outdoor education. I implemented all marketing efforts, recruiting 19 students for the camp.

      I instruct small group math enrichment classes for grades 1-6. I challenge students to think "outside the box" and to cultivate the belief there is always a way to find an answer to a problem at hand, in math and in life. I implemented an etiquette class for our middle schoolers in 2016 where I encourage youth to live a life full of integrity and how to be anticipate the needs of others. I create and instruct 2 week-long leadership programs off campus for incoming 5th-8th graders through our summer program and day retreats for the 8th grade. Show less

      At Firefly, we believe that leadership, etiquette, and character development are one and the same. We offer experiential programs in all three to help light up young people and adults alike.Founded in 2017 by Jeanie Shuck, Firefly offers experiential character and leadership development for the youth and adults of the Chicagoland, Michiana, and Northwest Indiana areas. During the school year, Jeanie is an educator who teachers character and leadership development. She believes youth and adults can learn how to incorporate the value of respect, honesty, integrity, and empathy into everyday life, no matter what their age. Through cultivating the awareness that everyday actions matter, one develops a deeper sense of pride in who they are and who they want to become. Jeanie earned her bachelors in Recreation & Outdoor Leadership from Indiana University and is currently working towards earning her Masters in Experiential Learning and Development with Plymouth State University.
