Director General Army Aviation is responsible for the overall coordination of the Army Aviation capability across the Capability Life Cycle - from needs and requirements, acquisition, introduction into service, sustainment and withdrawal of Army Aviation capabilities. The role functions as the principle Army Aviation adviser to Commander Forces Command, and provides decision and staff support to Head Land Capability Army for acquisition and sustainment activity. The role broadly encompasses technical and operational airworthiness, sustainment and development of existing capabilities, and overseeing and developing future Army Aviation capabilities. Director General Army Aviation is also Head of Corps for Army Aviation. Show less The role is to command, lead and manage a talented arrray of military, public servants and contractors in support of the Army Aviation capability. This involves the delivery of basic and advanced rotary wing flight training for military rotary wing aircrew, including flight instructor training; the delivery of trade training for aircraft support and mission support staff who enable the aviation mission; and, the delivery of aeroskills training for the Army maintenance and engineering workforce for Army's advanced rotary wing systems. The role also demands a comprehensive understanding of training systems and training delivery, and is also responsible for providing advice on training and trade health for all of Army Aviation's personnel. Commandant Army Aviation Training Centre is also the Senior ADF Officer for the Darling Downs and the Deputy Head of Corps for Army Aviation. Show less The role was to form the first ARH Tiger capability in Army, and generate the first aircrew training system of its type. The task required the establishment and merging of military and contractor instructional staff (from Kellog, Brown and Root) with Eurocopter maintenance crews to establish a coherent training capability. Importantly the role required a fundamental reassessment of what capabilities the ARH Tiger could deliver, and was the nacent establishment of Armed Reconnaissance and Attack culture within the Army Aviation capability. From a system that was not functioning, and from diverse backgrounds, within 4 months the first Tiger instructors were qualified, within 8 months a capability was generating qualified aircrew and within 18 months the system was mature and functioning within the capabilities of the system.
