As a Student Ambassador, I work as part of a larger team to sell the university. This involves working on my own and as part of a team to speak with groups and individuals who are interested in studying at the University of Reading. During this I have developed my skills as a leader, working in teams, communicating with visitors, and how to represent the university in a positive way across different types of events such as Higher Education Fairs, Student Lead Forums and Open Days. As a Disabled Social Mentor, this involved working one-on-one with students with disabilities to help their integration and engagement with university life. During this I have been able to develop my skills supporting those with disabilities, and helping support them to engage socially in a supported way. As a Team Leader of this programme, in addition to previous responsibilities, I was involved in the planning of the timetable for the Student Mentors, their wellbeing and ensuring that their involvement ran smoothly. It also involved communication directly with the academic leads of the programme, and ensuring that the Student Mentors achieve their best. As a Student Mentor on the Study Smart Programme, my role involved speaking with upcoming students about the transition to university life, and the social, academic and personal changes which are associated with this. In addition this also aided my development in communication skills across a Digital interface.
